What you actually need
Less than people think.
- A laptop or computer with a decent webcam (1080p is the norm)
- Broadband with at least 5 Mbps upload
- Soft, flattering light: a ring light or two lamps
- A private room you can make look good on camera
- Photo ID to prove you are 18 or over
What nobody tells you
Being honest up front saves everyone time.
- Earnings vary a lot. They depend on your hours, consistency and personality, and the first weeks are usually slow.
- It is self-employment. In the UK you register for Self Assessment and pay tax on profits.
- Regulars make the income. Treat it like building a small business, not a lottery ticket.
- You can stop any time. No contracts, no minimum hours.
Questions
Do I need experience?
No. Most models start with none. What matters is being comfortable on camera, reliable with your hours, and good at conversation.
Do I have to show my face?
No. Many models never show their face, or use masks, wigs and angles. You decide.
Can people from my country or town see me?
The major cam sites let you block viewers by country and often by region, so you can hide your stream from where you live.
How and when do I get paid?
The cam site pays you directly, usually weekly or twice a month, by bank transfer or e-wallet. You never handle payments from viewers yourself.
Do I need to be 18?
Yes. Every model must be at least 18 and pass the site's photo ID verification before going live. There are no exceptions.
